If this horse is not disabled, then just what IS a disabled horse?

If this horse does not have a severe welfare problem, then just what IS a severe welfare problem?

Does he have to die in the sales ring to qualify as having a severe welfare problem?

Does he qualify as being in very poor condition?

Just how much more severe or poor can he get???

What will it take for the New Holland Police Department to bring charges,

the New Holland vet to consider a horse debilitated, diseased, or lame?

Must the horses die in the ring?

Must the horses have only 3 legs attached to their bodies?

Oh, we forgot, these horses are

STILL BREATHING,

so that means we can still kick 'em, drag 'em, beat 'em and drug 'em to get them on the slaughter trucks.

As long as they arrive alive at the slaughterhouse they can be dragged off the truck with chains, have a cattle prod inserted into their rectum to make them stand so they can be hit in the head with a 4 inch bolt & be hoisted by a hind leg to have their throats slit.

Title 18 Section 5511(d) Selling or using disabled horse.--A person commits a summary offense if he offers for sale or sells any horse, which by reason of debility, disease or lameness, or for other cause, could not be worked or used without violating the laws against cruelty to animals, or leads, rides, drives or transports any such horse for any purpose, except that of conveying the horse to the nearest available appropriate facility for its humane keeping or destruction or for medical or surgical treatment.

The Story & The Unanswered Questions

Blood is observed in several locations on the ground outside a horse trailer in the parking lot at a horse auction in New Holland, PA.

Blood is dripping from the floorboards of the trailer.

This is not normal. Professional horse transport companies can attest to this.

Witnesses observe an obviously injured horse standing inside a trailer.

Later, witnesses observe the same injured horse down inside the same trailer.

A known killer buyer is observed coming out to the trailer, after the sale has ended. The horse is then led out of the trailer into the auction barn.

The New Holland Police Department, NHPD,open an investigation into this alleged act of cruelty to animals. Reportedly, the horse came from OH to PA and was injured during the trip.

• Who bandaged the leg?
• Where?
• When the driver arrived at the auction, did he seek vet care for this horse?
• Who?
What was done, & at what time?
• Why did the driver go to an auction in New Holland, and not New Bolton Center?

On Rte 23 coming into New Holland from either direction, are 2 vet clinics.

Did the driver stop at either of these clinics?

You mean, between OH & PA, there was not a VET to be found?

So you took the horse to an auction??

An auction, that in the horse industry is known as a "meat sale".

Did this horse have a Coggins Test & Health Certificate?

Did the NHPD inspect this paperwork?

As the story goes, the known "killer buyer" was going to take this "horse home & fix him up"

Odd, that is what another "killer buyer" said about this downed horse.

Just where IS that health paperwork??

Reportedly the "killer buyer" would leave the horse at the auction overnight, and return the next day to pick him up.

Just how much is he paying for diesel fuel???

Not under $1.50 a gallon.

No way a tractor trailer, or a dually pickup truck pulling a horse trailer is getting more than 10 miles to the gallon.

Again, is the paperwork going to match on this horse?

Would the bill of lading state that the horse is going to a location that could be considered the,

"nearest appropriate facility for medical or surgical treatment or destruction"?

Bel-Tex, a horse slaughterhouse, in Ft Worth, TX is over 1500 miles away.

New Bolton Center, a vet hospital, is less than an hour.

Valley Protein, a rendering company, is less than an hour away.

TX and NJ do not qualify as,

"the nearest appropriate facility for its humane keeping or destruction or for medical or surgical treatment."

Reportedly, according to the the vet who works at the auction in New Holland , the horse did not have a broken leg, and could be transported. The horse had a few cuts.

The horse is reported to have died during the night, probably from internal injuries.

From what, a few cuts?

Internal injuries?

The vet said this horse is fit to travel, & then he dies??

How could this horse even make it to NJ & be "fixed up" if he is so severely injured that he dies?

"Killer buyers" may be a lot of things, but a poor judge of a horse's condition is not one of them.

A "killer buyer" or a "dealer" is not going to expend the money on a horse that is so far gone that he dies overnight,  "to fix him up".

UNLESS,

the horse is valuable enough to justify the expenditure of time & MONEY.

And, if the horse is that VALUABLE,

the horse would have gone to New Bolton Center,
not an auction in New Holland.

• Did the NHPD see the renderers records?
• By law, the renderer has to maintain such records.
• Internal injuries?
• When the vet "examined" this horse, did he take a temperature?
• Respiration?
• Heart Rate?
• Capillary refill time?
• Check gum color?
• Look in his eyes?
• UNBANDAGE the leg?
• X-ray the leg?
• Listen for gut sounds?
