The EPN Sanctuary Program welcomes Silver Inflation, AKA Randy, a 20 year old grey Quarter Horse gelding! Randy is in need of a monthly sponsor to help offset the costs involved in providing Randy with a lifelong home. Randy was donated to the EPN by his caring and responsible owner who could no longer provide for Randy due to their retirement.

This brings to 5 the number of horses in our program. We are in need of fly masks, ivermectin, strongid and Fastrack. We rely on your donations to care for these horses. The EPN needs to raise $4000.00 per horse each year to cover the expenses, including farrier, vet, dentist, medicines, vaccinations, dewormers, hay, feed, and bedding. All of our caretakers are volunteers, there is no paid staff.

Randy's Story

Randy's owner found Randy a job for a few years in a handicapped riding program, until his soundness issues made him no longer usable. Randy was then placed on a waiting list at a sanctuary. During the time Randy waited for an opening, his owner continued to provide for all of Randy's needs. Unfortunately time ran out and his owner was facing the reality of having to put Randy down.

The EPN stepped in to assist because we strongly believe that responsible caring owners need to be rewarded for their actions. Oftentimes responsible owners have no choice but to euthanize their beloved horses due to the fact that welfare organizations will not accept companion horses due to a lack of space. Yet there always seems to be space available for the irresponsible owner's horse who is rarely held accountable financially or legally through prosecution. We could not stand by and watch this caring responsible owner euthanize Randy, while neglectful horse owners are rewarded by the sale of their neglected/abused horses at auctions, or the surrender of their neglected horses to welfare organizations without prosecution.

The EPN Sanctuary Program accepts horses on a limited basis and is subject to review by the EPN Board of Directors.The EPN gives preference to horses that are the victims of PA horse cruelty cases in which the defendants have been prosecuted in court for their crime against the horse. Our belief is simply that bad behavior needs to be punished, not rewarded with money or relief from the financial obligation of caring for a horse that they have failed to provide necessary food, water, shelter or vet care to as required by PA Crimes Code, Title 18, 5511(c).

Irresponsiblility is the reason horse cruelty exists.

Acknowledging his lifetime of service, Randy's owner and the EPN have now assured that Randy will have a peaceful retirement, protected from abuse,neglect and slaughter.

Randy provided hours of enjoyment to handicapped children in a therapeutic riding program until an unsoundness made it impossible for him to continue.

Randy is safe in the EPN Sanctuary Program, protected from neglect, abuse or slaughter. Please help us fulfill our committment to Randy and send your tax deductible donation to the EPN.

Randy still needs 3 monthly sponsors to reach full sponsorship, why not make the committment to a horse that has provided service to handicapped children?

PA Anti Cruelty Law-Title 18, 5511(c)

(c) Cruelty to animals.--A person commits a summary offense if he wantonly or cruelly illtreats, overloads, beats, otherwise abuses any animal, or neglects any animal as to which he has a duty of care, whether belonging to himself or otherwise, or abandons any animal, or deprives any animal of necessary sustenance, drink, shelter or veterinary care, or access to clean and sanitary shelter which will protect the animal against inclement weather and preserve the animal's body heat and keep it dry. This subsection shall not apply to activity undertaken in normal agricultural operation.
